PERSONAL WEBSITE NEWS
As you've perhaps noticed, the updates on this here website have practically come to a grinding hault.  I was recently diagnosed with cancer, and it's becoming harder and harder for me to find time to work on my website.  But, my devotion to Jo Dee remains strong, and I'm trying to add as much here as I can.
WAKING UP EARLY ON CBS
Jo Dee performed this past weekend on CBS' Saturday Morning Early Show.  She performed her new single "I Wish" along with snippets of some of her other songs, and "I'm Alright" & "Bye Bye".  Her performance was great, and it was nice to see her up so early!
This wayward webbie princess is lead to believe that she had bedhead...but don't take my word for it!

JO DEE MESSINA 'FREEDOM FESTIVAL'
Most of you know that Jo Dee will be performing on July 4th at Freedom Hill Amphitheater in Sterling Heights, Michigan.  However, did you know the time of the show has changed?  Ticketmaster contacted me yesterday afternoon and said that the show will now be at 5:30PM instead of 2:00, and the gates will open at 4:00PM.  If you are attending Meet & Greet, head to the merchandice booth or look for a JDM crew member once you're inside.
SITE NEWS!
Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that...Fan Fair is over, and JoDeePrincess' Jo Dee Messina Site has been slow on the updates lately.  I will be updating as much as possible, but time constraints are making it tough.
I'm out there in the world trying to make it to every Jo Dee show I can- my next planned concert is July 4th, 2003, AKA "The Jo Dee Messina Freedom Festival".  I have nothing planned past that- but you never know when the spontaneous JoDeePrincess will show up at a Jo Dee show!
JO DEE POSTS ON HER WEBBOARD!
From http://www.jodeemessina.com, a long-awaited post comes from the elusive Miss Jo Dee Messina...:
To My Fans,
I can't begin to tell you how truly grateful I am for all of your support.  With all the craziness going on in my career right now, I never dreamed that you would stick by me.  Thank YOU for making my Greatest Hits debut at #1.  It's something I never dreamed would happen.  I wish I had the words to express my feeling, because, just "thank you" seems to fall short.  At this point, though, thank you is all I can come up with.
Thanks again- you guys are unbelievable.  Keep your ears and eyes open for the next studio record.  Hopefully that will soon follow the greatest hits.
All My Love,
Jo Dee

20 QUESTIONS, 20 ANSWERS
Jo Dee has submitted answers to the questions that we the fans asked her through e-mails to www.cmt.com!
1. What is your favorite part of your tour bus?
My bed! I don't get to see it as much as I'd like to.
2. Do you pick out all your clothes, and what kind of places do you shop?
Ah! It is absolutely amazing how many people it takes to pick out an outfit! There is a team of people that try to decide on what I wear, as far as television apperances and photo shoots. But you know I picked it out if I'm wearing sweatpants. Like, right now, I'm wearing camouflage pants, New Balance running sneakers and a shirt that I think must be part of pajamas, actually. If it's rugged and baggy, I picked it out, and if it's fancy, the team picked it out!

3. How do you pronounce your name? Is it like Jody, or is there a pause between Jo and Dee?
I once said it was JoDee, one word. And then my mother corrected me and said, "Your name is Jo Dee. You were named after your uncle Joseph Dunlop. And they used to call him Joe D."
4. What's the last really good movie you saw?
I don't see a lot of movies when I'm working. It all depends on what you mean by "really good." Like, "really intense good" would be A Beautiful Mind. "Really good funny-wise" or a lighthearted chick flick would be...Just Married was kind of cute. I don't know, I'm not a big moviegoer.  I just work too much.
5. What would you be doing if you hadn't become a singer?
I'd probably still be in the music business. A writer, producer or something. Because I've done music all my life. It's really all I know, and it's what I'm the most passionate about.
6. So many country artists are going on voice rest. What do you do to keep your voice in good shape?
I sleep. It's weird because I've read about this, and it's so wild. When I was between 12 and 19, I'd sing four to six nights a week, for four hours a night. The one thing and the only thing I have found for me -- and I don't want ro upset any doctors -- the lemon doesn't work. The sprays don't work. The cough drops don't work. Nothing works for me but sleep. The hot tea. Look, your voice is tired because it's tire. Sleep, and rest it. Sleep heals a lot of things.
7. Are you a morning person or a night person?
You know, I'm neither. I've been getting up early to run, but I can't believe my eyes are open at that point in the day. And then I can't get to sleep at all, so let's say I'm a night person.
8. Why didnt you get to release the new album you made with Tim McGraw? The record label wanted to release a greatest hits package.
9. If you had a chance to do a duet with a female pop star, who would it be?
Bonnie Raitt. I love her. I think shes cool, too cool for school. She totally rocks.
10. Who is your favorite all-time country singer?
Ooh. Ooh. I may have to pass on that because the list is so long. Tammy Wynette...Patsy Cline...All the gutsy women. I would say all the gutsy women out there are the ones Ive been drawn to for some reason, and it reflects in my music to this day. Loretta Lynn -- I know that sounds crazy, as sweet as Loretta is, but its like You aint woman enough to take my man! Oh yeah! So, all the gutsy women.
11. Which music video was the most fun to make?
The most funThe most funMmm Bye Bye, Im Alright, Bring on the Rain and Thats the Way. Those would be my four picks, and I cant just pick one. Sorry.
12. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I wish my legs were longer. I run six miles a day, and it takes me forever! My legs are like three or four inches long! So, I would lengthen my legs because Im so short.
13. Do you set goals when you run, or do you just run until you get tired?
I will be very honest. I run not because I enjoy it, but I run to try to stay in shape. I do set goals for myself. I have a goal for the fall. Id love to do, if not this year, then next year, a triathlon. But -- big but, big, big, big but -- I have to teach myself to swim that distance. Its over a mile.
14. Who do you think is the sexiest male country singer right now?
(whispers) Tim McGraw. Isnt that awful? Thats like saying that about my brother. Wait a minute. That could be misconstrued. Tim. I think he is! (laughs.) In a sisterly way! (laughs.)
15. What is it like being friends with Tim McGraw? Is he as nice in person as he is in front of a camera?
Oh, God, yeah. I used to always say this early on, in both of our careers, but the tough-guy image is youd be surprised to know how tender and kind he is. I think since he and Faith got together, and the girls have come along, the public has gotten to see that wonderful side of him, of being that loving, caring, passionate guy.
16. What did you enjoy most about touring with George Strait?
Just being a part of that show. I went to see George Strait when I was 13 years old. My best friend and I were actually talking about that just this morning. He was like a god -- even back then! It was just a very proud spot for me to be touring with him. I was actually too scared to approach him many times. Id just say hello every now and then, but I didnt want to bug him.
17. How many pets do you have and what are their names?
Oh, man, get your pen out. I have two cats, Midnight and Tiger, named by my fiancés children when they were younger. I have eight dogs. Ready? Gizmo, Fancy, Travis, Buddy, Alicia, Bella, Russell and Willy. I got a rabbit, and I keep a couple of horses on my property. They dont belong to me, but I keep them all here. The rabbit was an Easter present the kids got me six years ago. Ive got the oldest living rabbit, I think. I had this hutch made for him, but its like eight feet long and three-and-a-half feet high. Its like a condominium.
18. In Bye Bye, you sing about having your lead foot down on the accelerator. Just curious if you ever received any citations from the police.
I have gotten a few speeding tickets, and one time, it was really late at night -- it was 3 oclock in the morning, and there are always deer that cross the road. So I was creeping along because I didnt want to hit a deer. And I got pulled over for going too slow.
19. What kind of cookies are your favorite?
If I had to pick a favorite, probably Oreos. Or M&M cookies or the half-and-half cookies. The kind you get at the bakery with half chocolate frosting. Please dont bring these to my show.
20. When you play at the fairs, do you ever ride the carnival rides?
Sometimes I do. I try to stay away from the midway though because fried dough is my weakness.

JO DEE TO PERFORM AT NATIONAL TRUST GALA
Jo Dee's performance from the National Trust Gala can be seen on HGTV at 8:00PM EST on Friday, July 4th.  To find out more information, read the article below from http://www.knoxnews.com.  (Knoxville News)
Country performer Jo Dee Messina stopped by HGTV's offices in Knoxville on Monday (4/21) afternoon in support of the channel's Restore America endeavor.
Restore America is aligned to promote work of the National Trust and Save America's Treasures, a public-private partnership restoring historical sites, collections and archives.
Messina is among a long list of celebrities - including Sharon Stone, Hal Holbrook, Kathy Ireland, Ali McGraw, Al Roker and Bryant Gumbel - supporting the project.
To keep viewers informed on the progress of historic restorations, the channel will feature regular segments on its "Restore America" series, do two "Restore America" specials and air one-minute vignettes throughout the day.
For her part, Messina will perform at a National Trust gala in Washington, D.C., in June. Her performance will air at 8 p.m. Friday, July 4, on HGTV. The preservation project is of particular interest to Messina, who visited historic sites as a kid in her native New England.
"We'd go see Plymouth Rock and places like that," she says. "We were slammed with all this historic stuff. I found out what this (preservation project) was all about and thought it was great."
"When I was a kid, my dad used to take me to this lighthouse in Rhode Island, and I loved it. It was a big deal to me I love old, historical homes. I love history."
Messina now lives in a 100-year-old home outside of Nashville.
"New homes are great, but I love the creakiness of the floors in an old home and the shapes and the ceilings," she says.
It's not like Messina gets to spend much time at home or visiting historical sites these days. She's busy touring, will release a greatest-hits CD this summer, work on a new studio album for the fall and, somehow, find time to do a Christmas tour to support the holiday album she did last year.
When Messina, 32, is on a tour bus, she spends time watching television.  "I've been (into) the news a lot because of the war," she says. "I'm a news person: '60 Minutes,' '48 Hours,' '20/20,' 'Dateline,' 'Nightline.' I'm a bit of an informational person."
And when she isn't watching gloom and doom?
"I watch 'Friends' and 'Will & Grace.' I'm a sitcom person," she says. " 'Friends' is one of the shows of the era, of these times, of this generation."
Messina has done "some readings" for some sitcoms. "I'd love to do some sitcoms because I am such a wiseacre," she says with a laugh.
Early in her career, she auditioned for the old "Star Search" five times. She was turned away every time.
Is she having the last laugh now?
"Maybe they are laughing at me," she says laughing.

That's the article!  Also, FYI: Jo Dee also appeared on the show "So You Wanna Be A Star", and I have SEEN it!  I have it on tape, and it's quite amusing!

JO DEE'S NEW SONG, "HEAVEN WAS NEEDING A HERO"
Jo Dee has written a new song titled "Heaven Was Needing A Hero", which you can listen to at http://www.jodeemessina.com/hero.  It is a tribute to fallen heroes and those currently serving overseas.  Here are the lyrics:
HEAVEN WAS NEEDING A HERO
WRITTEN BY JO DEE MESSINA, 2003
I came by today to see you
Oh I had to let you know
If I knew that the last time that I held you was the last time
I've had held you and never let go

Oh it's keeping me awake nights wondering
Lying in the dark asking why
I've always been told you won't be called home
Until it's your time

I guess heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up for what you believe
And follow it through

When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is heaven was needing a hero like you

I remember the last time I saw you
Oh you held your head up proud
I laughed inside when I saw how you were
Standing out in the crowd

You're such a part of who I am
And now that part will just be void
No matter how much I need you now
Heaven needed you more

'Cause heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up for what you believe
And follow it through

When I try to make sense of it in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is heaven was needing a hero just like you

Heaven was needing a hero
That's you

What a great song from Jo Dee...once again, you can hear it and see a special section on Jo Dee's website located at: http://www.jodeemessina.com/hero.  And, as a reminder, Jo Dee does have another song simply entitled "Hero" which you can visit by clicking on the "Hearing Hero" link on the Jo Dee Links page.

JO DEE POSTS ON WWW.JODEEMESSINA.COM!
This is Jo Dee's recent post today about the war in Iraq:

My opinion of celebrity statements has been a common question in the last week. Do things I say mean more or less than everyone else's words? For those of you wondering my answer - I can only speak for myself when I say that my words hold as much or as little water as they would if being spoken by your neighbor.

With this in mind I want to say, the president has just addressed the country about the war on Iraq. It is a scary situation that we're all in. I ask you, as a friend and neighbor, whether you believe in this war or not - to please keep the soldiers that are fighting overseas in your thoughts and prayers. I ask that you pray for them and their families. Also, try to keep your focus on holding our country together and not on tearing it apart from within. No matter how we got here, we are here now ...

Remember to be kind, patient and helpful to one another. Most importantly remember to keep the faith.

May God Bless America

Love,
Jo Dee

So yeah...that's what she had to say!

JO DEE BAR DANCES?  HER REPORT FROM COLORADO!
Jo Dee has once again wrote to fill us in on her happenings in Creste De Butte.  Here's what is going on...
Wednesday was a perfect day here in Creste De Butte.  Everyone was fitted for skis and snowboards and headed for the slopes.  The guys from Lonestar hit the snowmobile trails.  After a full day of activities, we all had dinner and got to see performances by Lonestar and Brooks & Dunn.  And Brooks & Dunn, you guys rock.
Thursday was more snow and at night was a celebtiry bartending contest.  Four bars, artists in each bar, raised money for cancer research and they have a contest to see whose bar raises the most money. I actually got $10,000 to dance on the bar.
Don't worry, Mom, it wasn't like it sounds.  I was fully clothed.  My dance resembled something from the Tin Man while I sang the Aretha Franklin song "Freedom".  After that we all had a late night and listened to Sole Incision, which is a group of doctors from Vanderbilt Research Center who rocked the night away.
The snowboarding has been an adventure.  I started off with five people in my class on Wednesday.  Wednesday afternoon there were three of us.  Thursday afternoon there was just me and one other and Thursday afternoon it was just me.
I don't think there is a single place on my body that doesn't ache.  Keep in mind I run for four miles every day and thought I knew every muscle in my body.  However, some of those aching muscles I didn't know existed before today.

Awww...well, there you have it!
JOURNALIST FOR A WEEK: JO DEE REPORTS FROM COLORADO
Jo Dee is The Tennesseean's guest journalist for a week, writing a column to report about "Country In The Rockies", a charity gathering in Colorado.  As we know, Jo Dee is planning on attempting...snowboarding.  Yes, snowboarding folks.  Well, here's what she has to say:
I'm glad to say we made it here safely.  It turns out our plane was delayed two hours.  This allowed Ira Dean of Trick Pony to spend some quality time in the airport bar, which turned out to be quite amusing when we finally boarded the plane.  Ira's liquid courage possessed him to stand at the front of the plane and assist the flight attendants with their safety procedures demonstration.
I can honestly say as many times as I've flown I've never seen this demonstration performed quite this way. I'm not sure the FAA would approve.
Today is the big day- everyone hits the slopes for skiing, snowboarding, with instructions for the beginers.  I myself am going to brave the snowboard, though I'm questioning whether this is a smart thing to do or not.  Everyone I've asked about snowboarding has either rolled their eyes, told me horror stories about it, or simply warned me not to break anything.  I'm looking more forward to this each minute.

Love from Rockies,
Jo Dee
Awww...snowbunny Jo!  LOL

JO DEE POSTS ON WWW.JODEEMESSINA.COM
If you're a Jo Dee fan, you know that Jo Dee isn't exactly the most web-savy person in the world.  On her website, she periodically posts from time to time.  But it's been almost a year since she posted, and now she's back!  Here's what Jo Dee had to say:
January 24th, 2003  9:25PM
Hi Everyone!  It seems a bit weird not to be touring already.  We are in the studio finishing up the album.  It will be a total of three years since "Burn" when this record is released.  UUUUUGGGGG!!! what a process making a record.  I'm so looking forward to previewing the album on the website. I think when I start to wrap it up, that's when you'll get to hear it.
The first single is out now.  I love the freshness of the sound.  Also, the message.  You only live once so make it count...
I've also been writing for my new record. I've been reflecting on my life the last few years and it will come across clear with this record.  People ask about the content of the album.  Any "spunk"? what do you think?
Nashville has had some cold weather lately.  So when I'm here at the house, a lot of my time is spent thawing out the pipes and running water from the house to the horses (the hose in the barn froze). I love the snow though. It reminds me of New England in the winter.
I hope you all are staying safe and well. I'll try to keep you more posted on what's going on. Tuesday I head to Colorado for a week long charity event. I'm going to try to learn how to snowboard.  I attempted it over Christmas in New England. Man, did I eat a lot of snow.  I'm going to buy wrist guards for this week.  When you fall (apparently that's the bulk of what I'll be doing, falling) your wrists are the only thing to land on because your feet are strapped in- that could be harmful, so by following a friends advice, the guards are a necessity. I'll try to get pictures.
Stay safe out there. Keep warm and remember to pass along positive thoughts to those around you :)
Love Ya,
Jo Dee :)

EEEEK!  'Tis that just not the cutest little post in the world?!  She's so funny.  But we love her right back!
